PersonalTo the end of 2016

Since tomorrow is the last day of 2016, I wanted to wish everyone a great New Year and send a little positivity out into the universe.

Jay, Milo and I have spent our 2nd full year in Colorado and love this state more than we could of ever imagined. Yes, by April I’m counting down the days till the leaves come back…but the people make up for it 2 fold. We are excited to start opening our home to kids and I’m taking a step back from living at the airport. Not to say that I won’t be traveling at all, but taking on select destination weddings for the year ahead.

My couples, my families, my friends…thank you. Thank you for being there for me and my family. Thank you for being a part of my life and supporting my photography journey.  Let’s hope that 2017 brings even more adventures, babies, weddings and love.

New Meeting Space in Denver – Denver Wedding Photographer

While living in California, I shared a studio with one of my best friends in the industry, and was sad to move away, but excited for the new changes. After over a year of working from home, I knew I needed a little piece of community back. If anything, I needed a place to meet couples that didn’t involve scoping out a restaurant and arriving up to 2 hours early just so we could be guaranteed a table the moment they arrived! Yep, I did that more than a few times. 😉

So this month I joined a co-working space in Denver called Union27! Temporarily we are using a rad space at the Taxi Building (Drive Building #2) called WiMi Spaces. And when I say it’s rad I mean it! It’s like a industrial loft, but without the parking issues of a downtown location. They even allow dogs, so Milo is going to be joining me every chance I get!  This space is for other creatives, and the future location is just for those in the Wedding Industry. You know, the crazy people that love weddings so much they want to be at one every other weekend?  Yeah, that’s me.

I can’t wait to have a meeting here and I hope to meet some Denver couples planning their 2016-2017 wedding. Coffee/Tea and Trader Joe’s Snacks on me!

Walking Colorado One Trail at a Time – Devil’s Backbone Loveland Colorado

Last weekend, Jay, Milo and I went walking. I could lie to you and say hiking, but lets be real here, I don’t think Milo’s little legs are quite mountain-dog status yet. He’s just getting used to the crazy cold snow on the ground.

About 3 minutes from Jay’s work, there’s an open space called Devil’s Backbone. As soon as you drive up to the parking lot you can see why, with dinosaur-bone like rocks jetting up the hills. It’s pretty cool and reminds me of a mini Garden of the Gods. We only walked about 2 miles, but once spring time comes I can see us going even farther…one day maybe we will be crazy and walk all the way to Lory State Park in Fort Collins (that’s like 20 miles) since it all connects!

I really want to experience more of Colorado this year, any dog-friendly trails that you guys recommend?

Out of the Office: Vacation to Kauai, Hawaii

It’s been 3 years since I got on a plane without my camera gear, and while I love being able to travel to so many unique places in the name of love, my heart yearns for sandy toes and a light carry on bag.

So this Sunday Jay and I are going just that. We are taking a week off to explore a little island that I know only in fond memories. Recharging, hiking to waterfalls, drinking Mai-Tai’s on the sand, reading, and spending time with family are top do-to items.

For those that feel burnt out, I get you. I ask you today to find a open week in your calendar, even if it’s a year out…and mark it. Take a permanent black marker and color it in so much you aren’t even sure what dates are behind it. You might be tempted to move the dates around a bit if the “perfect job” comes in,  but trust me when I say Murphy loves making vacations nonexistent. Because if you are anything like me, in the moment your life is just too crazy to “take time off”.

You need it to be creative.

A look back: 2014

2014…what can I say. It was a crazy good year. I became a wife, photographed 34 weddings, traveled to 2 countries, 10+ states, and packed up and moved to Colorado with my husband + two cats that I think would be much happier plotting world domination.

Thank you. Thank you for letting me into your lives and not running away when I dance like no one is watching. My favorite images this year have a theme…laughter, rad locations + love. Because if you cant laugh at the fact that you are making out in front of complete strangers with a photographer cheering you on…I’m not sure we could be friends.

It was impossible to include everything, in fear of breaking the internet. Really though, I started with over 600 images…and painfully brought it down to where my browser wouldn’t crash into a fiery death. Grab a bottle of wine, put aside 2+ hours in your calendar and enjoy.
