It was a cold spring day in Oceanside, and I was eating brunch with my good friend Lauren Nygard. We were geeking out as usual when she mentioned shooting her first solo wedding in November and asked if I could help her out though the day. I happily agreed and put it in my calendar in between bites of delicious omelet and coffee. For those wondering: I have a knack for remembering what food I eat.
Ann and Kevin met in grad school. She thought he was cute, and he thought the same. They were too shy to talk to each other, so Ann and her best friend had a Halloween get together JUST so Ann could invite Kevin. To make it even better they all dressed up as characters from Alice in Wonderland.
The plan worked out perfectly. Halloween night they hit it off. And that best friend ended up marrying the two of them.
The entire day was just a reminder of family and friends and how important they are. Instead of getting married at a venue, they choose Ann’s mothers backyard. Auntie Kim started preparing the food early that morning, and an uncle cooked the most delicious legit Korean BBQ I’ve ever had. Coolers held glass bottles of coke and beer. Ann created the details herself, and all of the flower arrangements were put together by friends the night before.
It was perfectly them.
While Lauren was taking photos of Ann getting ready, I headed down to the Residence Inn in Burbank to grab a few shots of Kevin and his boys. Lauren’s awesome husband was our driver/assistant for the day. Thanks Clay-best assistant ever!
Ann, you are tooooo gorgeous.
Even if the two hours of portraits are at 12pm…I can still find little nuggets of beautiful light. Just takes a tad more time or an amazing location.
I just gotta say, these two have the most beautiful brown eyes I’ve ever photographed. Your children are going to have glowing caramel colored eyes – BAM!
If you want to make your photographer love you forever, block out time for two hours for romantic portraits that day. In the Descanso Gardens…or anywhere else that is chalk full of beautiful locations. To shoot at the Decanso Gardens, a permit is needed…but its worth it. And you will be on my list of bffs.
So Ann and Kevin probably think I’m a little crazy, because when I spotted this tree did a little dance and started squeaking happy noises.
I’m bursting at the seams, I cant wait to show off the rest of the day!
Snatched the Vendors list from Lauren’s Blog post. She should forgive me…If not, there’s a diet coke out there on me. 🙂
