Living in Los Angeles or Orange County, sometimes it’s easy to forget we have stars. And I’m not talking about the ones in Hollywood. I know…it’s a funny thought…but it’s true. Some places in LA you can go without seeing a single star. And no, the blinking dot in the sky isn’t a star. It’s a plane or UFO. Most likely the first one.
Growing up, I didn’t live in a big city so star-gazing was pretty normal. A quick 10 minute drive and you could be in the middle of semi-nowhere. On a warm, clear night you could expect the local lake to be packed with lovebirds and teenagers enjoying the stars. And other things, but I wont get into that…err…
When I moved to Downtown LA, the only stars you could see were the ones walking down the street or working on their latest movie. It was kinda sad to think about, but I would do a quick swim in my rooftop pool and I would magically forget about it. Who’d a thought? Since then I moved to Orange County…so I have a few stars back in the sky (and less movie stars), but it never is the same.
That is, until I went camping in death Valley. You wanna see every flipin’ star in the sky and spend excessive amounts of time looking up? Proceed to the dessert.
The sky was so beautiful it took my breath away every time I looked up. I even braved the cold nights and purposely walked away from the warm campfire just so I could see every single speck of star. It was like someone threw a huge fistful of glitter into the sky. X10.
On the last night, my cousins got together for an excursion. We wanted to see every-single-star-possible. So fighting the falling temperature, we walked to the salt-flats. After the 2 hour, we didn’t even feel the the cold. We were just having too much fun.
