9 months ago I met Jasmine Star. Ok, so I didn’t really meet her, but I discovered her blog. She’s a rockstar in the wedding photography world, and after reading her blog for a few hours I could understand why. Jasmine pours her heart and soul into her blog. She talks about her loves, fears and even what she eats for dinner. It’s very voyeuristic, but people become her best friend without even meeting her.
She keeps it real. Fo-reals.
Last week she photographed a wedding that was broadcasted live on the internet…mistakes and all. Then she showed all of her unedited images the next day and answered questions from a live audience. It was memorizing to watch her work, I learned so much and its validated what I already do on a wedding day.
For a photographer, j* is a breath of fresh air. She takes pride in sharing her self-taught knowledge, and encourages others to do the same.
Another thing I want to stress: j* tells us to be ourselves. Keep it simple, don’t try to be someone you’re not. If someone loves you for who you are, then everything else is easy.
With this in mind, I gave myself the permission to be me. Tall, dorky-ness and all.
Much thanks to my friend Marilyn Nakazato for the quick photos we took before watching Eat Pray Love and David Champagne’s photo of me in action.
