For photographers, wedding photographers especially…December and January is lovingly known as our off-season. I consider myself lucky that I did have some amazing weddings in the last few months, but also feel lucky that I was given some time to rest and recharge. I think of a creative brain like a cup of coffee: it only can work it’s magic if it’s constantly refilled with caffeine and vanilla creamer (yum…). After each shoot the cup is emptied a little bit…and if you don’t remember to refill it…you can find yourself coffee-less. Okay…so thats a bad analogy…but you get the idea.
Some people sit down and write out yearly goals and business plans when they need to recharge…but I pride myself on not being normal. I’ve been going to the movies, reading books, spending time with friends and more importantly…using my Disneyland pass. It’s just what the Dr. ordered.
Anyways, the whole reason of the blog post is to remind you to look around at what you have around you. Take the time to recharge and get inspiration for the next shoot. If not you might miss something that was there all along.
