Last week I coached my first photographer though a session. I didn’t even think I had it all together, let alone be able to teach someone else my ghetto-fabulous ways. I’ve always helped 3rd shooters at weddings and even had coffee with people just starting out…but it kinda hit me that I have something I can teach to others.
Wow…I know “stuff”.
The whole experience put things into perspective. I take for granted how much I’ve learned in this past year, how much I had to work to get to this point. How many lunches and coffee breaks I’ve had to go to so I could learn tips from some of the top photographers in the area. How many workshops I’ve attended to learn something new. And I’m giving it back. I’m all for Karma. So if you have a question just ask. It might not be the right way, but it works for me.
Forgive me Howie. I couldn’t help myself.
Hopefully Howie learned something! Good shot!
I have been shooting professional since 2008 and I get asked a lot from people to coach/teach them and I feel the same way you did! I want to teach but I feel like I don’t have it all together to preach to someone else how to do it. Got any tips?
