I did it. I shot an entire session on film…and with a camera that didn’t have a built in light meter (thats how photographers get their general settings) or auto focus.
And I couldn’t of asked for a more awesome couple. About 5 minutes after I started shooting I noticed something was wrong with my Mamiya…I took more than 15 photos…but it wasn’t telling me that the roll of film was finished. I kinda freaked out. Especially since I knew I just lost about 15 frames that I really liked. Including frames that I took at a wedding the day before. Oh learning.
So after a few minutes of swearing I opened the back of the camera and noticed that the film never caught…so everything that I “shot” didn’t exist. Disappointed, I tried to re-load the film and heard the click I never heard before. After that I was very careful my film was properly loaded…and Nick and CJ were very patient through the entire ordeal.
Just in case people are wondering…I’m shooting all of my 120 film on a Mamiya 645 and a 80mm 2.8 lens. I shot 8 rolls in total. 1 roll of 120 Kodak 400 TMAX (Black and White), 3 rolls of 120 Fuji Pro 400, 2 rolls of 120 Portra 400 and finished up 2 rolls with my 35mm Nikon.
The one thing I learned: Manual focus is hard.
I guess the film ripped while it was being processes…I dont know about you, but I think it looks freaking awesome.

OH.MY.GOSH. You rocked that film. Beautiful images, Candice!
Wow! You are going out to get what you want and dragging it back home with you. That was probably a really weird sentence, but what I meant was YOU’RE ROCKING THE FILM! I know we don’t know each other. Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Aisha. I like your work. I shoot too. Enough about me though. 🙂 I think this is a really exciting post because you’re making life work for you and by life I mean film, but I also mean life. Keep up the amazing shooting!

Been following your work since the creative live session with J* and If I may say this looks amazing. Film and I don’t mix, I even have problems with simple disposable cameras. Freaking awesomeeee! You should definitely use film more often.
Candice! These are amazing!!! Your film photography is just stunning. Good job on shooting an entire session with only film and no digital, that takes confidence! I’ve looked at these pictures two or three times and they just bring a smile to my face.
